Marine Engineering Cadets can start their career as Trainee Marine Engineers on board ships in National / International Shipping Companies. Their career growth can go up to Chief Engineer.

Duration of the Course:

4 Years

Eligibility: 

A pass in Plus-two ( 12th Standard ) or its equivalent, with minimum 60% aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry subjects with minimum of 50% marks in English.

Medical Standard:

Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eyesight up to 6/12 in both eyes or 6/9 in better eye, 6/18 in other eye and with no colour blindness.

Ranks & Salary Details:

Rank - Trainee Engineer
Starting Salary - Rs.35,000/- to Rs.60,000/- pm
Steps - B.E ( Marine Engineering ) + 4 basic STCW modular courses.

Rank - Fourth ( IV ) Engineer
Starting Salary - Rs.90,000/- to Rs.1,00,000/- pm
Steps - 6 Months sea service as trainee engineer + 3 months preparatory courses ( Opt. ) + Passing in class IV part B Exam.

Rank - Second Engineer
Starting Salary - Rs.2,00,000/- to Rs.2,15,000/- pm
Steps - 12 Months Sea Service as IV Engineer + 4 Months preparatory courses + passing in class II exam.

Rank - Chief Engineer
Starting Salary - Rs.3,00,000/- to Rs.3,50,000/- pm
Steps - 18 Months sea service as second engineer with class II certificate + 2 months courses + passing in class I exam.
